The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has been chosen to lead the sustainable development hub as part of the Future Minerals Forum held in Riyadh. This decision comes after the advancements made in 2024, marked by the establishment of three regional centers of excellence in Africa, West Asia, and Central Asia.

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development played a key role in this achievement by providing strategic support and contributing to strengthening the sustainable approach in mining. This close collaboration between the ministry and UM6P has allowed the university to establish itself as a leading player in this initiative.

As part of this mission, UM6P will work alongside two other centers located in Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Its goal will be to train young talents to seize opportunities in the mining sector, focusing on geological exploration and establishing a sustainable mining industry with a low environmental impact.

With this appointment, UM6P positions itself at the forefront of efforts to modernize mining practices, balancing economic performance, environmental respect, and social inclusion. The university’s Center for Sustainable Development thus aims to promote responsible and sustainable mining practices on an international scale.
