The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has recently put into operation the first phase of a structuring project aimed at strengthening the production of drinking water in the Mkanssa municipality and neighboring municipalities from the production facilities at the Al Wahda dam. With a total cost of 41 million dirhams, financed by ONEE through a loan from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) bank, this project consists in its first phase, which amounts to 24 million dirhams, of laying 28.5 km of pipes with diameters ranging from 300 to 400 mm. The second phase of this project, which is scheduled to be operational in December 2025, will involve the construction of a drinking water reservoir with a capacity of 500 m³ and the construction and equipping of a pumping station with a flow rate of 45 liters per second. This first phase of the project, which is part of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI) 2020-2027, the agreement for which was signed on January 13, 2020, in the presence of HIS MAJESTY KING MOHAMMED VI, MAY GOD ASSIST AND GLORIFY HIM, will ensure the continuity and security of drinking water supply for the municipalities of Mkanssa, El Ghouazi, and Beni Snous in the Province of Taounate, the municipalities of Mrabih and Selfat in the Province of Sidi Kacem, and the municipality of Sebt Loudaya in the Province of Moulay Yaâcoub, benefiting a total population of more than 72,000 inhabitants.
