From May 19 to 23, 2025, Rabat will be the African epicenter of ecological transition, on the occasion of the Green Synergy Week, organized at the La Tour Hassan hotel. This continental-scale event is part of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) program, led by five UN agencies (UNDP, UNEP, ILO, UNIDO, UNITAR), with national coordination provided by UNIDO and the Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

This week dedicated to the green economy illustrates Morocco’s strategic positioning as a regional actor in sustainability, bringing together institutions, businesses, researchers, and decision-makers around two key moments:

  • The 3rd Green Hub Conference (May 19-20)
  • The 1st Regional Green Academy of PAGE for Africa

The Green Hub Conference, themed “Building Bridges Towards a Green and Sustainable Economy”, aims to promote concrete solutions for the transition to an inclusive economy. The event will gather participants from diverse backgrounds (public and private sectors, civil society, universities, international agencies), with a particular focus on South-South cooperation.

Following this, the first Regional Green Academy of PAGE will serve as a capacity-building and exchange platform for African representatives, in order to accelerate the financing and implementation of green and circular policies on the continent. Organized in two phases — an online phase from April 28 to May 9, followed by an in-person session in Rabat — the Academy will address topics such as access to green jobs and the mainstreaming of sustainable innovations.

Speaking on this occasion, Zakaria Hachlaf, Secretary General of the Department of Sustainable Development, emphasized that this edition represents “an important step towards the joint development of a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economic future”.

For Sanae Lahlou, UNIDO Representative in Morocco, this Academy represents “a strategic advance to strengthen African capacities to lead the ecological transition”.

Morocco thus confirms its ambition to become a regional hub for green economy, by hosting concrete, structuring initiatives with a strong continental impact.
