During the 38th session of the Morocco-Japan Annual Consultation on Fisheries, held on July 15 and 16 in Rabat, Morocco and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their cooperation in the fields of maritime fishing and aquaculture.
The two nations emphasized their commitment to promoting sustainable management of fishery resources, according to a statement from the Department of Maritime Fisheries, which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests.
The Moroccan delegation thanked Japan for the launch, in February 2024, of the technical cooperation project titled “Aquaculture for Blue Growth in Morocco.” This project aims to modernize aquaculture practices in the country.
Furthermore, Morocco expressed its desire to see rapid progress on the new generation fishermen’s village project in Souiria K’dima, which has already been approved by the Japanese authorities.
The meeting was co-chaired by Zakia Driouich, Secretary General of the Department of Maritime Fisheries, and Shinichi Suzuki, Director of the International Affairs Division at the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
The discussions focused on the evaluation of the current Agreement and the future directions of their cooperation for 2024-2025, with a particular emphasis on ongoing projects supported by the Japanese government.
