The National Office of Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE) has announced a pre-qualification notice for constructors aimed at the realization of Ultra High Voltage alternating current (UHT) power lines designed to transport electricity over a distance of approximately 1,000 kilometers, connecting the regions of Boujdour and Tensift.
This initiative aligns with the Office’s strategy to enhance the national electricity transmission network and its pivotal role in the Kingdom’s energy transition. The project is part of a broader set of structural electricity infrastructures, either operational, under construction, or in development, led by ONEE, including a future high-voltage direct current (HVDC) linkage currently in development, which will directly connect the South to the Centre of the Kingdom, according to an ONEE statement.
The large-scale UHT power lines project, expected to be operational by December 2028, aims to transport renewable electric power of around 2,000 MW, thereby enhancing the fulfillment of the growing national demand for electric energy and the massive integration of renewable energy sources, the same source specified.
Following this pre-qualification phase, ONEE will select constructors to participate in the second stage related to the tender for this project, which will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, where the chosen contractor will be responsible for the design, construction, and commissioning of the project under a turnkey contract.
The deadline for submission of bids is set for January 15, 2026, at 12:00 PM (Moroccan time), the statement notes, adding that the bid opening will take place on the same date.
It is worth mentioning that the national electricity network currently comprises over 30,000 kilometers of power lines, including a 400 kV double circuit line reaching the city of Dakhla.
In addition, another 400 kV double circuit line, currently under construction by ONEE, is expected to be operational by mid-2026, enabling the evacuation of approximately 900 MW of additional power, particularly related to the new wind farms being built, which are to be operational by the end of 2026.
In this context, the future UHT linkage between Boujdour and Tensift will play a significant role in transporting new renewable power under development in the South to the Centre of the Kingdom, thereby ensuring its optimal integration into the national grid and enhancing the Kingdom’s supply security.
Through this new project, which is fully aligned with the national dynamic driven by the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, regarding the development of strategic energy infrastructures, ONEE reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and the guarantee of a secure, reliable, and decarbonized electricity supply.
