Morocco and Australia are emerging global powers in renewable energy and green hydrogen, said Australia’s ambassador to the Kingdom, Michael Cutts, on Thursday in Rabat.

Speaking at a ceremony held on the occasion of Australia’s national day “Australia Day 2024,” Mr. Cutts highlighted the strong ties between Australia and Morocco, whose diplomatic relations are celebrating their 47th anniversary.

The Australian diplomat also recalled the active collaboration between Moroccan and Australian companies within the framework of ambitious energy transition and decarbonization goals.

In a statement to MAP, he affirmed that Australia’s partnership with Morocco for a green economy and the development of a green hydrogen ecosystem “is a strategic choice.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the geostrategic importance that the Kingdom places on African countries, praising in this regard the Atlantic Initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which aims to facilitate access for Sahel states to the Atlantic Ocean.

For her part, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, indicated that this day is an opportunity to reiterate the excellence of diplomatic, commercial, and cultural relations between Morocco and Australia.

Ms. Benali highlighted the excellence of partnerships between Rabat and Canberra, which continue to develop successfully, emphasizing the importance of Morocco’s integration into global energy markets.

“These are partnerships that fit within a common vision and a common strategy between the two countries to decarbonize industries in order to align with national strategies,” said the minister.

“Australia Day 2024” saw the participation of more than 300 guests, including high-ranking Moroccan officials, prominent members of the Australian and Moroccan business communities, civil society actors and NGOs, as well as diplomats accredited in Rabat.
