The Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy has announced the launch of the 1st edition of the “Water Efficiency in Housing” Trophy.

This initiative is part of the implementation of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, calling for the rationalization of water consumption and the adaptation of public policies to the structural changes in water resources. It aims to recognize exemplary construction and renovation projects in terms of rational water resource management in the residential sector, the ministry stated in a press release.

It thus encourages the adoption of innovative technical solutions and the promotion of best practices aimed at sustainably reducing water consumption throughout the life cycle of buildings, the ministry added.

“Water is today a vital resource under pressure. Through this Trophy, we aim to stimulate innovation and mobilize all stakeholders in the sector to make water efficiency a priority in the design, construction, and renovation of housing. It is a strong signal of our shared commitment to current and future generations,” said the Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri.

Quoted in the press release, Ms. El Mansouri emphasized the need to strengthen the proactive water management policy and to promote awareness and innovation in this field.

Organized in partnership with the Al Omrane Group, this trophy is part of the roadmap for water economy in urban planning and housing, fitting into the new strategic vision of the ministry, resulting from an inclusive territorial dialogue, aimed at enhancing the resilience of the housing sector to environmental challenges, particularly water stress, and promoting a sustainable, innovative, and resource-efficient housing model, the press release recalled.

Actors proposing innovative ideas for water savings in the housing sector will be rewarded, whether they are project owners, project managers, startups, associations, students, or other stakeholders. This trophy will also highlight existing initiatives in favor of water savings in the residential sector.

Prizes will be awarded to winners in Category I: “Completed or ongoing project (Professionals and organizations)” and Category II: “Ideas competition (Professionals, organizations, and students).”

Additionally, an awards ceremony will be scheduled to reward the best existing practices as well as innovative ideas for water savings in individual and collective housing construction projects or in renovation projects during the building cycle.

The deadline for submitting applications is set for June 30, 2025, at 4:30 PM, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy, the same source noted, adding that the application file can be downloaded at “www.mhpv.gov.ma.”
