Dakhla accelerates its environmental strategy through international partnerships. The city hosted a delegation from the French commune of Dreux on Saturday for a meeting aimed at strengthening their cooperation in several priority sectors, including agriculture, aquaculture, renewable energy, and sustainable waste management.
The meeting, chaired by the president of the Dakhla Municipal Council, Erragheb Hormatallah, was attended by the mayor of Dreux, Pierre-Frédéric Billet, accompanied by a delegation of economic operators and representatives from the GEDIA Group, active in environmental and renewable energy sectors.
### A Convention Signed for a Structuring Project
Central to the discussions was the presentation of an integrated project combining agricultural production, aquaculture activities, energy transition, and waste treatment. Erragheb Hormatallah announced the signing of a convention as part of the partnership between the two cities, affirming that this cooperation now aims at concrete actions that are directly operational on the ground.
### Valorizing Marine Waste to Produce Gas
For Pierre-Frédéric Billet, this convention marks the start of a pioneering initiative: the valorization of marine waste and other waste materials to produce biogas through sustainable processes. The stated dual objective is to create a local energy solution while enhancing the protection of a region known for the richness of its ecosystem.
### Micro-Methanization: Energy and Fertilizer from Organic Waste
Patrick Polge, the General Director of the GEDIA Group, elaborated on the technical principle of the project, based on an experimental phase of micro-methanization. This technology allows for the transformation of organic waste into gas as well as agricultural fertilizers, in line with circular economy principles.
According to him, this initiative is part of the development dynamics of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, driven by several growing sectors, particularly tourism, agriculture, and maritime fishing.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Wilaya, Abderrazak El Gourji, as well as local elected officials and heads of external services.
