The Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE) is intensifying its efforts to support industries in adopting energy management systems compliant with the ISO 50001 standard. This initiative specifically targets the agri-food industries in the Southern regions, notably Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, and Guelmim-Oued Noun.

Tailored Technical Support

Starting on November 26, AMEE will mobilize technical expertise to train and assist operators in this sector. Planned actions include:

  • Training sessions on the ISO 50001 standard, covering its principles, operation, and benefits related to energy performance.
  • Strategic planning, including the definition of specific energy policies for each company, setting energy objectives and targets, as well as developing action plans to achieve them.

This support is part of decree n°2-17-746, which mandates an obligatory energy audit for energy-intensive companies and establishments. Since its implementation in 2019, this regulation aims to:

  • Reduce energy consumption and costs.
  • Stimulate the creation of companies specialized in energy audits.
  • Revitalize the energy efficiency market and generate new jobs.

ISO 50001 Standard: A Lever for Energy Efficiency

Designed for all sectors, the ISO 50001 standard provides a structured framework allowing companies to:

  • Develop energy policies.
  • Identify targets and objectives related to energy efficiency.
  • Rely on reliable data to understand and optimize their energy consumption.

It thus promotes a more rational use of energy, with both economic and environmental benefits.

A Local and Global Impact

By strengthening the skills of agri-food industries in the Southern regions, AMEE contributes to promoting a sustainable energy transition, essential for addressing current challenges. These actions not only help reduce the energy footprint of companies but also enhance their competitiveness in a context where sustainability is becoming a global imperative.

This initiative fully aligns with Morocco’s goals to promote sustainable industrial practices while consolidating its leadership in energy efficiency on the African continent.
