The Al Wahda thermal power plant project has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the concrete slab for the first unit. This operation confirms the project’s entry into a major phase of civil engineering, a turning point announced by the technical teams involved.

Located in the Tangier–Al Hoceima region, the complex is set to house two units of 495 MW based on H-class technology. Documents reviewed indicate that this is the first gas turbine contract executed on a turnkey basis by the Chinese company in North Africa. Ultimately, the plant is expected to play an important role in the country’s energy balance: it is designed to enhance network stability, support the evolution of the local energy mix, and contribute to securing electricity supply.

No additional details have been provided about the upcoming schedule, but teams mention the mobilization of a specialized consortium now working on the foundations, slabs, and other structural works. It is also noted that Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has been selected for the supply and installation of two M701JAC gas turbines, as part of a partnership involving the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water. This system is intended to complement the contribution of renewable energies and support the stability of the national system.
