The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) hosted a regional roadshow in Marrakech on Thursday, organized by Med-TSO, focused on the integration of electrical systems in the Mediterranean.
Under the theme “Connecting Grids, Securing the Future: The TEASIMED 2 Project Effort for an Integrated Mediterranean Power System,” this meeting brought together institutional representatives, electricity transmission network operators, financial partners, and energy sector experts from the Euro-Mediterranean region, stated ONEE in a press release.
This event is part of the joint efforts between ONEE and Med-TSO aimed at enhancing regional cooperation and supporting the gradual integration of electrical networks, in a context marked by supply security challenges, energy transition, and increased integration of renewable energies.
Discussions primarily focused on strategic, technical, regulatory, and financial issues related to strengthening the integration of electrical systems in the Mediterranean, emphasizing Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, the development of regional interconnections, long-term network planning, and the necessary levers to build a more efficient, sustainable, flexible, and resilient electrical system by 2040.
ONEE highlighted that it is a member of Med-TSO and contributes to the association’s work aimed at enhancing the integration of electrical networks across the Mediterranean.
The hosting of this roadshow in Marrakech, the press release continued, reflects ONEE’s commitment to developing electrical interconnections, strengthening the resilience of electrical networks, and promoting regional cooperation among Mediterranean countries.
Med-TSO (Mediterranean Transmission System Operators) is the Association of electricity transmission network operators in the Mediterranean region. It comprises operators of high and medium-voltage networks from 20 Mediterranean countries, working together to operate and develop electricity transmission infrastructure.
Med-TSO’s mission is to promote the establishment of an integrated, safe, and sustainable regional electricity transmission network while supporting institutional initiatives aimed at fostering the creation of a Mediterranean energy market.
MED-TSO is chaired by Sabah Mashaly, President and CEO of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). The General Secretariat, led by Mr. Angelo Ferrante, is based in Rome.
The Association has 20 transmission network managers among its members, concluded the press release.
