    Water Stress: The Casablanca-Settat Regional Water Authority Accelerates the Construction of Monobloc Stations

    The Regional Multiservices Company (SRM) Casablanca-Settat is accelerating the construction of monobloc stations to address the challenges posed by water stress, through an ambitious program that includes the establishment of 28 seawater desalination and brackish water demineralization stations, according to a statement from SRM Casablanca-Settat.

    “The current period is heavily marked by significant water stress, exacerbated by the effects of climate change and demographic pressure. During the summer season, the demand for drinking water significantly increases, particularly in the Casablanca-Settat region. These challenges require urgent and innovative solutions to secure the water supply for the population,” the source emphasized.

    Aware of the critical nature of these challenges, the Ministry of the Interior, along with its partners, particularly the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, has decided to launch an urgent program aimed at addressing immediate needs while enhancing the resilience of the territories in the face of water scarcity, the statement noted.

    This ambitious program includes the establishment of 28 monobloc seawater desalination and brackish water demineralization stations, with a total production capacity reaching 8 million cubic meters per year. The document specified that their establishment relies on reverse osmosis technology, which provides high-quality treated water and represents an ecological solution.

    Project Progress and Investment

    The budget allocated to this project amounts to 400 million dirhams, with a contribution of 128 million dirhams from the Casablanca-Settat region. Its implementation is overseen by the Regional Multiservices Company Casablanca-Settat.

    Currently, the completion rate of the works exceeds 60%, with 17 stations already in operation: eight in the Settat province, five in El Jadida province, two in Berrechid province, and two in Sidi Bennour province.

    According to Mouhcine Moursli, head of the drinking water operations service at the Regional Multiservices Company Casablanca-Settat, quoted in the statement, “This project is evidence of SRM Casablanca-Settat’s commitment to ensuring a water supply for the residents of the region.”

    He added, “We continue to advance on this project with determination, and we are working to complete all 28 stations within this year.”

    Monobloc stations present several advantages, starting with their rapid deployment, made possible by a modular design that allows for installation much faster than conventional plants.

    They thus provide an effective and immediate response to emergency situations regarding drinking water supply. Their cost-effectiveness is another advantage. Indeed, their simplified architecture and operational mode optimize the use of resources, both human and financial.
