Tongxi Morocco, a subsidiary of the Chinese group Hubei Millennium Tongxi, has just won a major contract for civil engineering works for the construction of a desalination plant on the Moroccan coastline, according to information reported by Barlamane.com.

This contract is part of a larger project entrusted to China Light Industry Changsha Engineering Co., Ltd. (CLI), the main contractor for the operation. It involves the establishment of essential infrastructure for the installation of a high-capacity desalination complex, aimed at addressing the growing pressure on the Kingdom’s water resources. This victory represents an important first step for Tongxi in the Moroccan industrial landscape, contributing to the implementation of numerous structural projects aimed at ensuring water supply for coastal areas.

Originating from Hubei province in China, Millennium Tongxi specializes in civil engineering and hydraulic infrastructure. Its Moroccan subsidiary was established to sustainably settle in North Africa, particularly in the sectors of industrial construction, public works, and water treatment infrastructure. By relying on international engineering groups, Tongxi leverages technical expertise gained over several decades of experience in the Chinese market.

This contract marks Tongxi’s entry into the Moroccan market, with a responsibility focused on the development of the basic structures for the desalination complex, in compliance with local safety and environmental standards.

In the face of growing demand and the scarcity of freshwater resources, Morocco has launched several large-scale desalination projects, notably in Chtouka Aït Baha, Laâyoune, and Dakhla. New sites are expected in Casablanca, Safi, and El Jadida. These infrastructures, often developed through public-private partnerships or awarded to foreign groups as part of international tenders, reflect the Kingdom’s strong commitment to sustainably securing its water resources, particularly in coastal regions where urban and agricultural pressure is high.
