The 4th edition of Climate Day, held yesterday in the historic setting of Chellah in Rabat, concluded successfully. This major event marked a crucial step in the fight against climate change. **More than 450 participants**, from both the public and private sectors, as well as key players from national and international organizations, accompanied by an African delegation representing the energy sector, gathered to discuss pressing environmental issues and promote initiatives for a sustainable future.
The event, inaugurated by Mr. Christopher Guerin, CEO of Nexans, featured speeches from Ms. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Mr. Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, and Mr. Ibrahim Matola, Minister of Energy of Malawi. Three round tables allowed speakers to debate the issues of sustainable electrification, Moroccan opportunities in energy transition, and the crucial role of innovation in developing a sustainable ecosystem.
**Nexans and the Nexans Foundation: A Sustainable Energy Contribution**
During this Climate Day, Nexans Morocco and the Nexans Foundation participated in the electrification of the “Shems’y” village, a refuge for orphans of the earthquake that struck the El Haouz region on September 8, 2023. The project, led by the Moroccan Association for the Assistance of Children in Vulnerable Situations (AMESIP), aims to accommodate 150 orphans aged from under one year to 18 years. This village is equipped with infrastructure dedicated to education, culture, and social and psychological support, with the goal of providing these children with an environment conducive to rehabilitation and reconstruction after the tragedy that shook the region.
During the event, in the presence of Minister Leila Benali, Minister Ryad Mezzour, and Ms. Touraya Jaidi Bouabid, president of the Moroccan Association for the Assistance of Children in Vulnerable Situations (AMESIP), Nexans symbolically launched the electrification of the village. The Nexans Foundation financed the installation of photovoltaic panels, while Nexans Morocco provided cables and electrical equipment, thus ensuring a sustainable energy supply for this model village.
**Nexans Climate Challenge: Rewarding Environmental Innovation**
Climate Day was marked by the awarding of prizes to the six winners of the Nexans Climate Challenge, a competition aimed at rewarding the most innovative projects in the field of environmental sustainability. The winners, selected for the impact of their innovative ideas on reducing carbon emissions and promoting energy efficiency, each received a prize to encourage the implementation of their initiatives.
This 4th edition of Climate Day thus fully delivered on its promise: to offer a leading forum for ideas while continuing to inspire the birth of concrete projects in favor of energy transition.
