The Tanger Med port complex confirms its ambition to become a regional model in energy efficiency and decarbonization. On the occasion of the Logismed 2025 exhibition, the group detailed the pillars of its environmental strategy.

A clear roadmap for zero carbon

Speaking at a panel dedicated to climate issues in the port and logistics sector, Amine Benyessef, director of decarbonization at Tanger Med, affirmed the port’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality. The approach is based on four major levers: green electricity, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, and circular resource management.

The port already operates 100% on renewable energy, through long-term contracts. Energy self-production projects are underway to strengthen this autonomy.

A port that also powers ships

Among the key projects is the installation of onshore power supply infrastructure. This system allows ships to turn off their engines during stops, significantly reducing polluting emissions. Already in service on 800 meters of dock, this technology will be extended to all terminals, with a goal of universalization by 2030.

An ecosystem mobilized for sustainable logistics

Alongside him, Miguel Troitiño, regional director of XPO Logistics Morocco, reminded that the energy transition also requires efforts from the private sector. The company is deploying several initiatives: optimizing routes, reducing empty trips, using alternative fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), and gradually replacing energy-intensive equipment.

Logismed 2025, at the heart of tomorrow’s challenges

Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Logismed 2025 exhibition highlights logistics as a lever for sovereignty and economic competitiveness. The event is an opportunity to assess the progress of the national strategy and identify solutions suited to the rapid transformation of supply chains on a global scale.
