In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Green March, the National Office for Electricity and Potable Water announced the commissioning of the extension of the demineralization station in Tan-Tan, a project aimed at sustainably enhancing the potable water supply for the city and neighboring communities. The infrastructure was inaugurated on November 4, 2025, in the presence of the provincial governor, marking an important milestone for water security in the Southern provinces.
Financed with 80 million dirhams through a loan from the Saudi Development Fund, this extension focuses on the treatment of water from the Sehb El Harcha aquifer. It adds over 4,300 m³ per day to the existing capacity, raising the total production of the site to nearly 13,000 m³ daily.
The facility relies on reverse osmosis technology and incorporates recent energy recovery systems. These enhancements reduce energy needs, limit the carbon footprint, and optimize the costs of potable water production.
Part of the National Potable Water Supply and Irrigation Program 2020-2027, signed before King Mohammed VI, the project will ensure reliable distribution for approximately 92,000 residents while supporting the socio-economic development of the region.
