After three years of collaboration, the National Institute for Agronomic Research (INRA) and the Syngenta group present a promising assessment of their strategic partnership launched in 2021. Objective: to develop innovative solutions for the protection of wheat and faba bean seeds, in response to the growing challenges of the Moroccan agricultural sector.

    A lever for food sovereignty

Aligned with the dynamics of the “Green Generation 2020 – 2030” strategy, this cooperation aimed to improve crop productivity and reduce dependence on cereal imports. Through a rigorous approach based on applied research, experiments were conducted over several agricultural campaigns and pilot sites (Saïs, Zaïr, Chaouia), allowing for the evaluation of the effectiveness of new seed treatment technologies.

The initial results confirm the interest in certain formulations capable of enhancing crop protection from the early stages of development and contributing to improved yields.

    Innovation, sustainability, and co-development

Beyond technical performance, this partnership embodies an effective model of collaboration between public research and the private sector. It illustrates how scientific innovation and local adaptation can go hand in hand to advance a more resilient, profitable, and environmentally friendly agriculture.

The two partners also announce that a second partnership, this time dedicated to biological solutions, is in the finalization phase and should be concluded by the end of 2025.

    Towards a more autonomous agriculture

By continuing their collaboration, INRA and Syngenta aim to strengthen the competitiveness of Moroccan agriculture while supporting its transformation towards greater autonomy and sustainability. This work is also part of a broader ambition for food security at the national and regional levels.
