During the meeting of the Executive Bureau of UCESA on Wednesday in Bouznika, participants also congratulated the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) of Morocco, in its capacity as the current president of UCESA, for the outstanding quality of the documents produced and the intensity of activities carried out. They highlighted UCESA’s positioning and substantial contribution in Africa and on the international stage under the Moroccan presidency, according to a statement from CESE.
On this occasion, the presidents of the Executive Bureau members praised the accomplishments of the Union, particularly the granting of a Headquarters Agreement by the authorities of the Kingdom of Morocco for the benefit of the Union, the referencing of the organization with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as a permanent observer, as well as its sustained and fruitful cooperation with the Economic and Social Council of the People’s Republic of China on matters of mutual interest.
In his opening remarks, the president of CESE and UCESA, Abdelkader Amara, cited in the statement, emphasized the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment to the principles of regional integration, which form the major foundation of its African cooperation.
Mr. Amara also stressed the significance of the Atlantic Africa Initiative launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at providing Sahel countries with access to the Atlantic Ocean to promote their connectivity, strengthen peace and security, and foster shared prosperity.
The president of CESE expressed his satisfaction with the determination of member Economic and Social Councils (CES) and the willingness of partners to take effective action in favor of the real needs of African populations, particularly in advocacy for health, education, vocational training, energy transition, and climate action.
In line with this momentum, the Executive Bureau actively supported the membership of the National Council for Economic and Social Development of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea (CNDES), which will be a major asset for the development of the organization and its influence at the regional and continental levels, the statement highlights.
This statutory meeting of the African organization, attended by the presidents of Economic, Social, Environmental, and Cultural Councils from Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Congo, Gabon, Mali, and Morocco, as well as representatives from sister organizations (International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions “AICESIS” & Union of Economic Councils and Similar Institutions of Francophonie “UCESIF”), was dedicated to defining the priorities of UCESA’s strategic plan and the actions to be undertaken for the next decade.
