The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) is undertaking a major overhaul of its legal and organizational framework. This initiative follows royal directives aimed at transforming the ANRE into an entity covering the entire energy sector, including electricity, natural gas, and new energies such as hydrogen.

In this context, the ANRE has launched a call for tenders for an in-depth study on its strategic repositioning. The goal is to expand its responsibilities to encompass all components of the energy sector, including production, storage, transportation, and distribution.

This transformation aims to equip Morocco with a powerful and independent regulator, capable of effectively overseeing the country’s energy transition. It is part of an approach aimed at improving governance in the sector, enhancing transparency, and attracting more investments in renewable energies.

Stakeholders in the energy sector are closely monitoring this development, which is expected to have significant repercussions on the national energy landscape. The new structure of the ANRE is anticipated to play a key role in achieving Morocco’s sustainable development and energy independence goals.
