A key player in energy engineering, Steag Energy Services India (SESI), a subsidiary of the German group Steag, is gradually establishing itself in Morocco as a key partner in the transition to renewable energy. With its technological expertise and commitment to sustainable development, the company supports strategic projects in the Moroccan Sahara while continuing its international expansion.

In Morocco, SESI has made a significant technical contribution to the solar power plants of Laâyoune (65 MW), Ouarzazate (55 MW), and Boujdour (15 MW), developed by Sterling & Wilson. Using advanced digital tools such as PowerFactory from DigSilent, it has conducted essential compliance studies and dynamic modeling crucial for the smooth integration of these installations into the national electricity grid. It has also provided maintenance and technical assistance for PowerGrid Corporation, enhancing the reliability of Moroccan infrastructure.

At the heart of Steag’s approach is the digitization and continuous optimization of energy performance. Its solutions integrate artificial intelligence, fault prediction systems, and “digital twins” — Ebsilon, ProTRAX, PowerFactory — which allow for real-time simulation and management of power plant operations. Early anomaly detection via the ALMA system and training simulators for operators ensure proactive maintenance and controlled operation.

However, the group’s commitment is not limited to renewable energy. It covers the entire lifecycle of power plants, from engineering to renovation, including adaptation to new fuels, operational flexibility, and energy audits. This comprehensive mastery translates into remarkable operational performance, particularly in India and Botswana, where Steag has significantly improved the availability of facilities.

In line with the Kingdom’s energy strategy, the company is now positioning itself in future segments: green hydrogen, methanol, ammonia, battery energy storage systems (BESS), carbon capture and storage (CCUS), and waste valorization. In partnership with IQONY Solutions GmbH, it aims to actively contribute to the decarbonization of the Moroccan economy, enhancing the sustainability of infrastructures while ensuring their competitiveness.

Through this dynamic, Steag asserts its role as a catalyst in Morocco’s energy transformation and its integration into global clean energy value chains.
