The Al Moutmir initiative of the OCP group is prominently present at the 17th edition of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), which continues until April 27 in Meknès, offering tailored support for resilient and sustainable agriculture.

This agricultural development initiative contributes to the agricultural dynamics and the national strategy “Generation Green” for sustainable and eco-efficient agriculture.

Led by Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and its College of Agriculture, the Al Moutmir initiative, a true model of agricultural development, offers innovative solutions tailored to the needs of farmers.

Launched in 2018, Al Moutmir aims to be the link and bridge that connects the research and innovation ecosystem to the farmer, thereby establishing a continuous learning loop and a lasting farmer-oriented relationship.

In this spirit, Al Moutmir provides a customized offer that covers the entire value chain: from identifying soil needs to contributing to the production of tailored fertilizer formulas, as well as supporting farmers in adopting good agricultural practices and connecting them to the market.

The initiative, alongside the supervising ministry and its industrial partners, also supports farmers to ensure they have access to fertilization solutions that best meet the needs of their soils and crops.

To date, the initiative directly supports over 40,000 farmers and more than 540,000 indirectly through digital solutions, with a team of young agronomists mobilized close to the farmers in over 43 provinces, ensuring daily transfer of technologies and scientific knowledge. The team expanded in 2024 to include more than 40 agronomists and agricultural technicians.

Soil Health: Al Moutmir Expands Its Offer and Explores New Advanced Technological Solutions

Aware that soil analysis is the first step towards understanding soil health and then towards rational fertilization, UM6P mobilizes its human and technical resources to assist farmers in conducting this diagnosis on scientific bases. Thus, 7 mobile laboratories travel across Morocco and perform free soil analyses in addition to the laboratories at UM6P in Benguerir. Since the launch of the Al Moutmir initiative, over 167,400 analyses have been conducted covering more than 560,000 hectares.

As part of its continuous innovation approach, Al Moutmir is exploring other advanced technological solutions for soil analysis based on spectral analysis (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy – LIBS).

Local Fertilizer Market: Quality as a Top Priority

The manufacturing-distribution partners of fertilizers, in partnership with OCP Nutricrops, have been able to renew the ISO 9001:2015 certification for the manufacturing and distribution processes of blended base fertilizers at the national market level.

The Local Market Sales Department has also obtained the ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Quality Management System (QMS) for the sale of OCP fertilizers for blended base fertilizers.

Deployment of the “Daman Samad” Solution

OCP Nutricrops has initiated, in partnership with its Manufacturer-Distributor partners and leveraging the innovation ecosystem of UM6P, the start-up SensThings, the “Daman Samad” solution.

This project will involve equipping 50-kilogram bags of base fertilizers (brands of industrial partners) with electronic chips.

Project for Mapping Fertilizer Sales Points in Morocco

Mapping sales points is a common ambition shared by OCP Nutricrops and its partners, which is now being realized through the project “Mapping of NPK-Blend Fertilizer Sales Points in Morocco.”

This project is being carried out, in its launch phase in 2023/2024, with a Moroccan partner (GPS-Maroc). The project aims to identify, in real-time during the agricultural activity, the various sales points across the country that sell NPK-Blend fertilizers in a permanent or occasional manner.

For its initial results, the project has identified and cataloged more than 2,300 sales points during the 2023/2024 agricultural season.

The Moroccan Market Continues Its Path of Customizing NPK-Blend Fertilizers

The customization of base fertilizers in Morocco continues its course with a market that consumes 100% of fertilizers obtained through Bulk-Blending technology.

This technology is developed at two levels: a first industrial level generalized across all the factories of OCP Nutricrops partners (the Manufacturer-Distributors), and a second level with the scaling up of the Smart-Blenders network allowing for the production of customized fertilizers close to the farmer.

A Rich and Diverse Technology Transfer Program

Since the beginning of the Al Moutmir initiative, more than 29,320 demonstration platforms have been installed in several agro-climatic zones of the country, including 17,139 platforms dedicated to cereals and legumes, 7,335 platforms for olive trees, 1,527 for other tree species, 2,499 for vegetable crops, 401 platforms for forage corn, 312 for oilseed crops, and 106 platforms for quinoa.

More than 17,500 training sessions have been conducted since the start of the initiative, covering both theoretical training and field schools.
