Senegal is preparing to play a central role at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, with the confirmed participation of the Minister of Energy, Birame Soulèye Diop. This flagship event for energy investment on the continent will provide an ideal platform to showcase the country’s major advancements in both the oil and gas sectors.
Since the start of production at the Sangomar offshore field in 2024, Senegal has established itself as a new significant oil producer. The volumes achieved have exceeded forecasts, and part of the production is already supplying the national refinery, helping to reduce imports and strengthen energy sovereignty.
On the gas front, the GTA project, led by BP, delivered its first tons of liquefied natural gas in early 2025, placing the country on the map of African exporters. A second phase of development, as well as the Yakaar-Teranga project, dedicated to electricity and export, are in preparation.
These advancements align with the vision of President Diomaye Faye, who is focusing on a 25-year development strategy based on the valorization of local resources, universal access to electricity, and the growth of renewable energies. By 2030, 40% of national production is expected to come from renewable sources.
Through its participation in AEW 2025, Senegal aims to strengthen international partnerships and attract new capital to support its energy transformation. The event will serve as a major showcase to highlight investment opportunities in infrastructure, refining, transportation, and clean energies.
