On June 27, 2024, Morocco and Turkey signed two cooperation agreements in Rabat, aimed at strengthening investments in renewable energies, green hydrogen, energy efficiency, and clean technologies. Signed by Leila Benali, Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition, and Alparslan Bayraktar, Turkish Minister of Energy, these agreements also cover electricity production, decarbonization, and hydrocarbon exploration. This collaboration aims to promote public-private partnerships, joint projects, and enhance the technical capacities of both nations.

The agreements also extend to mining and earth sciences, encompassing the production of geological maps, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and the management of strategic minerals. During the signing ceremony, the ministers praised the quality of bilateral relations and highlighted the opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy and mining.

Minister Leila Benali stated that these agreements will give new momentum to bilateral cooperation and encourage private and public investments. A working group has been established to develop concrete projects aimed at reducing the energy bills of both countries. The Turkish minister’s visit to Morocco reflects a shared desire to explore new cooperation opportunities and strengthen bilateral relations in various strategic areas.
