A symbolic milestone has just been reached in the Moroccan automotive industry. The Renault factory in Tangier celebrated, on Friday, July 4, the rolling out of the 2000th Mobilize DUO, the first 100% electric quadricycle produced locally. This event marks a new advancement for the Moroccan industrial platform in the shift towards green mobility.
Currently intended for the European market, the DUO will only be marketed in Morocco starting from the last quarter of 2025. It represents a strategic project for Renault Group Morocco, illustrating the gradual integration of electrification technologies within the Tangier factory, which is already a pioneer in carbon neutrality.
A strengthened ecosystem around electric mobility
The industrialization of this vehicle required the establishment of a dedicated production line, capable of reaching an annual capacity of 17,000 units. The initiative has also allowed for the expansion of the local industrial ecosystem with the integration of new suppliers specialized in components specific to electric vehicles.
Present at the ceremony were: Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, Gianluca De Ficchy, CEO of Mobilize, Mohamed Bachiri, DG of Renault Morocco, and several economic and institutional actors from the region.
A national pride and an international ambition
Minister Mezzour praised “a significant moment for the national automotive industry” and reminded that this factory is “proof of the progress made by Morocco in its capacity for adaptation and industrial innovation.” For his part, Gianluca De Ficchy emphasized that “the DUO illustrates Mobilize’s commitment to making electric mobility accessible, safe, and smart.”
Mohamed Bachiri highlighted the “renewed confidence of the Renault Group in the Moroccan industrial platform,” and the “excellence of the local teams” that contributed to this success, with over 8,000 hours of training dedicated to new skills related to electrification.
A sustainable and innovative urban vehicle
The Mobilize DUO embodies a new generation of urban vehicles: compact, economical, featuring butterfly doors and advanced onboard connectivity developed on-site for export. It is designed with 40% recycled materials and is 95% recyclable, showing a 66% reduction in GHG emissions compared to electric vehicles of the same category.
With this model, Renault Morocco confirms its driving role in the transition to cleaner mobility, while consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a strategic hub for automotive production in Africa and the Mediterranean.
