Participants in panels organized on the sidelines of the 16th Energy Conference, held Wednesday in Ouarzazate, emphasized the importance of strengthening capacities in renewable energies, stressing the need to move forward with the implementation of sustainable desalination projects.
Thus, the panelists highlighted the strengthening of integration capacities for renewable energies for a decarbonized industry, and the development of energy storage techniques, which remain an essential condition to support the scaling up of renewable energies.
They also noted that access to urban energy for industrial sectors requires adapted mechanisms, innovative financing, and low-carbon industrial zones to provide industries with green, competitive, and contractable energy.
Regarding sustainable desalination, the speakers considered that this promising project aims to be a strategic lever for water sovereignty in the face of climate stress and the depletion of conventional resources. In this regard, they highlighted the national dynamic of sustainable desalination led by public authorities and included in the strategy of the national drinking water supply program.
They also insisted on promoting the public-private partnership model to deploy financially sustainable projects on a large scale, which are environmentally friendly and serve all stakeholders.
The panelists also advocated for strengthening energy sovereignty through stimulating industrial innovation and structuring new local value chains. In this sense, several concrete examples were presented in sectors such as aviation, hydrogen industry, transportation, and heavy industry.
Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 16th Energy Conference was organized, under the aegis of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, by the Energy Federation in partnership with the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy and the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies.
This flagship event, which welcomed France as the guest of honor, brought together a host of Moroccan and foreign government officials, industrialists, decision-makers, institutional actors, experts, and researchers.
