The first edition of the Green Impact Expo & Summit (GIES 2025) opened on Tuesday in Casablanca, bringing together public and private stakeholders in a space for exchange highlighting innovative and competitive expertise and solutions for sustainable mobility.
Organized by the Federation of Transport and Logistics affiliated with the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (FTL-CGEM), this event, which continues until February 13, with France as the guest of honor, is held under the auspices of the ministries of Industry and Commerce, Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Transport and Logistics, and Digital Transition and Administrative Reform.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, stated that “Morocco is positioning itself as a key player in sustainable mobility by integrating the entire value chain, from the extraction of raw materials to the production of electric vehicles.”
“Thanks to our competitive automotive industry and our investments in batteries and renewable energies, we have already started producing strategic components for the global energy transition,” Mr. Mezzour indicated, emphasizing that “this transformation is a major opportunity for the national economy.”
The minister called on all transport stakeholders to support this dynamic by adopting cleaner and more innovative solutions, in favor of a sustainable, competitive, and job-creating ecosystem.
For his part, the president of the Federation of Transport and Logistics, Abdelilah Hifdi, affirmed that under the visionary impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has made sustainable development a central strategic axis, aligning its national policies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting that within this dynamic, the Kingdom has made notable progress in ecological transport.
The president of the FTL noted that “the GIES is an essential strategic platform for exploring innovations in the field of ecomobility.”
Highlighting the main objectives of this event, Mr. Hifdi emphasized, among other things, the mobilization of political and economic decision-makers around the challenges of sustainable mobility, the encouragement of scientific and academic collaboration, and the promotion of business solutions and commercial partnerships.
Also participating in this event, the French ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, noted that “Morocco is now establishing itself as a key player in sustainable mobility, particularly thanks to major advancements in the automotive, rail, and urban transport sectors.”
He added that “France, a historic and committed partner, will continue to provide its expertise to support this dynamic, particularly through major transport projects that will redefine the country’s connectivity, in view of major events organized in Morocco such as the 2030 World Cup.”
“The future we are building together is based on a common ambition: to make Morocco and France references in energy transition and sustainable innovation,” Mr. Lecourtier asserted.
For his part, the president of the CGEM, Chakib Alj, indicated that “sustainable mobility is a major issue for the economic and environmental development of our country. Thanks to the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King, Morocco is now establishing itself as a leader in energy transition and decarbonization.”
“The transport sector must evolve towards cleaner and more efficient solutions. The success of the tramways in Casablanca and Rabat-Salé, as well as the LGV extension project, illustrates this commitment to sustainable and accessible mobility,” he noted.
“Beyond transport, sustainable mobility represents a major economic opportunity for Morocco. Our strengths in green hydrogen and battery manufacturing reinforce our position as an industrial and energy hub,” Mr. Alj added.
It should be noted that the opening ceremony of GIES 2025 was marked by the presence of, among others, the president of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, Abdellatif Maâzouz, the secretary general of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), Younes Benakki, in addition to representatives from African countries members of the African Union of Transport and Logistics (UATL), representatives of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), and representatives of the African Parliamentary Network for Development Evaluation (APNODE).
As part of promoting initiatives respectful of the event, the new all-electric OMODA E5 SUV, launched by CFAO MOBILITY, was unveiled during this ceremony.
