ONEE opens access to renewable energy for its medium voltage customers.

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) announced on Monday the opening of access to green energy for its medium voltage (MV) customers.

“ONEE, which plays a central role in implementing the national energy strategy aimed at transitioning to a sustainable, low-carbon, and competitive energy model, is taking a new step by opening access to green energy for its MV customers,” the Office stated in a press release.

The Office thus confirms its driving role in the development of the renewable energy market. A role it has fully assumed since the enactment of law 13-09 on renewable energies, fulfilling a dual mission: that of a catalyst for investors wishing to develop renewable energy production projects, and that of a facilitator for customers eager to reduce their carbon footprint.

It further states that the beginning of 2025 marks an important milestone, with the provision of the first green kilowatt-hours to MV customers.

Indeed, nearly 60 GWh of renewable electricity have just been marketed by private producers connected to ONEE’s national transmission network for the benefit of several MV customers of the Office, the same source specifies.

This includes TANGER MED UTILITIES in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Region, SAINT GOBAIN in the free zone of Kénitra in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Region, and MANAGEM with two consumption sites in Ouarzazate in the Drâa-Tafilalet Region.

This supply demonstrates ONEE’s ongoing commitment to support all its customers, Very High Voltage (VHV), High Voltage (HV), and now MV, in order to provide them access to renewable energies.

Since the enactment of law 13-09 and the opening of the market for clean energy, VHV and HV customers have already benefited from a cumulative volume of over 21.2 TWh of green electricity.

Indeed, more than thirty VHV-HV customers, mainly industrial, are sourcing this renewable energy under law 13-09, with over a hundred consumption sites.

To ensure the quality and continuity of electricity supply for all users of the electrical system while promoting massive penetration of renewable energies into the national electricity mix, ONEE is deploying significant development programs for flexibility means and electricity storage solutions to address the challenges posed by the intermittency of these sources.

A large program for the extension and reinforcement of the transmission network is also underway by ONEE, with a fivefold increase in planned annual investments by 2030.

By making access to clean and competitive electricity possible for MV customers, ONEE is actively contributing to a more equitable, inclusive, and future-oriented energy transition.

This new step also enhances the attractiveness of the national economic fabric, offering companies the opportunity to improve their carbon footprint while controlling their costs, the statement adds.
