Morocco is embarking on an ambitious project for the inclusive and sustainable development of its forest areas, financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to the tune of 84 million euros. This project aims to strengthen the resilience of the Moroccan economy in the face of climate change and to improve the water cycle.

    ### Project Objectives
The main objective is to promote sustainable management of natural resources and to support the emergence of a rural middle class. The project emphasizes forest and aquaculture entrepreneurship.

    ### Project Components
    1. **Structural Forest Management**: Implementation of infrastructure to improve the management of forest resources and restoration of eroded lands.
    2. **Enhancement of Forest Space and Promotion of Value Chains**: Promotion of biodiversity, development of ecotourism, and support for sectors such as cork, eucalyptus, aromatic and medicinal plants, and inland aquaculture.
    3. **Strengthening Institutional Capacities and Coordination**: Establishment of centers of excellence and innovation, as well as a network for sharing best practices in Africa.

    ### Target Areas and Populations
The project will benefit approximately 6.5 million people in the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Marrakech-Safi, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, and Souss-Massa. Cooperatives, inter-professions, SMEs, as well as young and women entrepreneurs will be the main beneficiaries.

    ### Context and Importance
In the face of the impacts of climate change, particularly the drought episodes between 2021 and 2023, this project aligns with the priorities of the Moroccan government for 2024. It aims to strengthen resilience, consolidate the foundations of the social state, implement structural reforms, and ensure the sustainability of public finances. By protecting natural resources and supporting the inclusion of youth, this project contributes to sustainable and inclusive development in the country.
