During her visit to Nouakchott for the 7th Mauritanian Conference on Mines and Energy (Mauritanides), the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leïla Benali, held a bilateral meeting with her Mauritanian counterpart in Energy and Petroleum, Mohamed Ould Khaled, in the presence of the Moroccan ambassador to Mauritania.
The discussions focused on strengthening energy cooperation between Rabat and Nouakchott, with a particular emphasis on electric interconnection projects and the joint development of renewable energies. Both officials highlighted that these initiatives reflect a shared vision of sustainable development, benefiting not only the two countries but also, more broadly, the African continent.
### Strengthened Institutional and Partnership Cooperation
The ministers praised the progress made in collaboration between their departments, which relies on both public bodies and partnerships involving private operators. They stressed the strategic dimension of electric interconnection projects, which are expected to promote regional integration and enhance energy stability.
This consultation phase in Nouakchott was presented as a decisive moment to shape structural partnerships capable of reshaping the regional energy architecture.

Both parties expressed their commitment to ensuring national energy security while enhancing local resources as part of ecological transition goals. Emphasis was placed on the importance of anticipating rising electricity demand and promoting sustainable solutions in line with climate imperatives.
