As the Kingdom continues to attract major global players in the electric battery value chain, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, in cooperation with Germany through GIZ, is launching a study to assess the national industrial potential. The recruitment process for the service provider responsible for this mission has been opened, with a deadline set for October 1, 2025.

Titled “Study on the State of Affairs and Sustainable Perspectives of the Electric Vehicle Battery Industry and Associated Value Chains in Morocco,” this mission aims to map the local ecosystem, identify promising segments—extraction, refining, assembly, recycling—and analyze Morocco’s capacity to integrate into global value chains. The objective is to position the Kingdom as a competitive hub for electric batteries, in line with its ambitions for decarbonization and sustainable mobility.

The selected provider will need to conduct interviews with public and private stakeholders, analyze industrial and environmental policies, assess training and innovation needs, and examine issues of governance, financing, and international cooperation, particularly with Germany.

For GIZ, this study is part of an industrial and territorial structuring strategy as Morocco strengthens its strategic sectors in solar energy, green hydrogen, and electric mobility. This initiative could thus solidify the country’s position in critical battery value chains and support its sustainable economic development.

The complete tender document, including methodology, technical specifications, and the profile of the sought service provider, is now accessible to interested candidates.
