    Morocco-Germany: Sila Atlantik, a Giant Cable for 15 GW of Saharan Electricity

    After the abandonment of the X-Links project intended for the United Kingdom, a German version, named Sila Atlantik, is taking shape to transport solar and wind electricity from the Sahara to Germany. Led by former executives from EnBW and Orsted, the company X-Links Germany plans to build two underwater cables totaling nearly 5,000 kilometers, capable of carrying up to 15 GW of energy.

    The project could benefit from the support of major European players such as E.On, Uniper, and Octopus Energy, aiming to commence the first electricity flows as early as 2034. The chosen technology, high voltage direct current, will help minimize losses over this exceptional distance.

    Sila Atlantik positions Morocco as a strategic link in the European energy transition, but its success will depend on political coordination, financing, and integration into continental networks.
