Samta Metals & Alloys, a subsidiary of the Indian group Samta, launched construction work on an industrial complex dedicated to recycling metal waste and producing copper and aluminum alloys on Monday in Kenitra.

Located in the “Atlantic Free Zone” of Kenitra, the industrial facilities of Samta Metals & Alloys, which will be operational in 2026, will cover 36,600 square meters and require a total investment of 70 million dollars, creating more than 400 direct and indirect jobs.

Having been the subject of an agreement in 2024 between the Moroccan state and the company, this project, which represents a significant advancement in the development of local integration of the metallurgical transformation industry, will process 46,000 tons of aluminum and copper scrap annually to produce 20,000 tons of aluminum-silicon alloy ingots and 15,000 tons of electrolytic copper wire coils, primarily to meet the needs of the automotive, energy, and aerospace industries.

Thus, while contributing to the development of the circular economy and better management of environmental impacts, this project will reduce carbon emissions by more than 90% compared to primary metal or alloy production, produce 100% using renewable energies in line with the “Green Metal” objective of the Indian industrial group Samta, in addition to developing local expertise and including women.

To anticipate the increase in national and regional demand, the facilities have been designed to allow for a doubling of production capacity after two or three years of operation.

“We are witnessing today the launch of a large-scale project that represents undeniable progress in the integration of the metallurgical transformation industry and in strengthening the industrial recycling sector in Morocco, while meeting the growing needs of particularly dynamic industries such as automotive and aerospace,” emphasized the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, on this occasion.

By contributing to the valorization of industrial waste, this project aligns perfectly with the national strategy aimed at promoting the circular economy and accelerating the ecological transition of the national industrial sector, noted Mr. Mezzour.

For his part, Ravi Agrawal, promoter and CEO of the Samta group, indicated that the strategic vision of the Samta Group is based on balancing social and environmental aspects.

“Beyond its industrial dimension, this project in Morocco embodies this philosophy and works towards creating sustainable solutions to everyday life constraints. By investing in innovation and the circular economy, we will not only reduce the environmental impact of the industrial sector but also help communities empower themselves through the integration of high value-added expertise and adherence to criteria related to responsible growth,” he said.

In this context, the strategic position of Morocco and its industrial vision make this country the ideal location for this major transformation project, Mr. Agrawal emphasized.

Anil Tripathi, CEO of Samta Metals & Alloys, stated: “We are proud to lay the cornerstone of factories that will set new benchmarks in sustainable industrial manufacturing. Our units will produce high-quality aluminum ingots and electrolytic copper wire coils.”

According to him, these products, which are intended for key sectors such as automotive, energy, and aerospace, will help reduce dependence on imports and create value within the Kingdom.

He added: “More importantly, this industrial complex is designed to integrate into the local ecosystem. Indeed, it will create more than 400 direct and indirect jobs and promote the development of skills in one of the country’s most promising industrial zones.”

The ceremony was attended by the governor of the Kenitra province, Abdelhamid El Mazid, the Indian ambassador to Morocco, Sanjay Rana, as well as government officials, representatives from the automotive and energy sectors, and partners of the Samta group.

The Indian industrial group Samta relies on a strategy based on sustainable development. Beyond the mining and metallurgical sectors, it encompasses various activities covering solar energy, biofibers, biofertilizers, nanotechnologies, and ESG monitoring.

Samta Metals & Alloys S.A, the Moroccan subsidiary of the Samta group, specializes in transforming scrap into high-quality secondary raw materials. It will operate according to the highest international standards in terms of efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility.
