As the sole representative from North Africa at a ministerial roundtable in London, Morocco presented its vision for energy transition and sustainable water management. Received by King Charles III, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leïla Benali, detailed the strategies adopted by Rabat to reconcile economic growth with the preservation of natural resources.
A recognition of Moroccan-British relations
This audience granted by the British sovereign illustrates the strength of the partnership between Morocco and the United Kingdom, as well as their convergence on major environmental and energy challenges. On the sidelines of this meeting, Ms. Benali participated in a ministerial roundtable on water security, organized under the auspices of the NGO WaterAid and chaired by Baroness Chapman, the British Minister for International Development.
She outlined the foundations of Moroccan environmental policy, aligned with the high directives of King Mohammed VI, who has made sustainable development a strategic pillar of the country’s public policies.
Water security at the heart of priorities
In the face of growing challenges related to water management, Ms. Benali emphasized the need for a proactive and effective approach. She highlighted the structural projects implemented by Morocco, particularly the “water highways,” a program aimed at optimizing the distribution of water resources in a context of increased climate stress.
An internationally recognized commitment
As the only North African country invited to this high-level exchange, Morocco confirms its leading role in energy transition and the fight against climate change. With a strategy focused on energy diversification and the development of renewable energies, it establishes itself as a key player on the African and global stage.
During the discussions, ministers and representatives from international organizations addressed ways to articulate economic growth and ecosystem preservation, within a framework of sustainable cooperation. This is an issue on which Morocco intends to continue playing a leading role.
