On Tuesday, the city of Larache was the stage for the 5th edition of the Meetings on Decarbonization, a strategic event themed: “Towards better management of water and energy for a sustainable agro-industry”. Organized by the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco for the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region (CGEM-TTA), this meeting brought together experts, public decision-makers, and private actors to discuss crucial issues related to energy transition and sustainable management of water resources.
A central issue for agro-industry
In a context marked by water stress and climate challenges, this meeting aimed to lay the foundations for a resilient strategy for agro-industry, a key sector of the Moroccan economy. Discussions focused on the integration of renewable energies, optimization of water consumption, and local and national initiatives in decarbonization.
Adil Rais, president of CGEM-TTA, highlighted the urgency of acting in the face of climate pressures: “Water and energy are vital resources for Morocco, particularly in agro-industry. We must accelerate decarbonization and adopt innovative solutions to secure their use.”
Obstacles and opportunities for businesses
SMEs and SMIs, which make up the majority of Moroccan businesses, face technical and legal challenges to access green technologies. The meeting highlighted encouraging initiatives, such as desalination stations or audits for optimal resource management.
Concrete commitments for the transition
During the event, a convention was signed between CGEM-TTA and the ENR Cluster to pool expertise in decarbonization. Fatima Zahra El Khalifa, general director of the Cluster, emphasized the importance of strong partnerships to support companies in their energy transition.
A sustainable vision carried by Morocco
Abdelaâli Lefdaoui, representative of the Ministry of Energy Transition, recalled Morocco’s efforts under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to promote sustainable development. He also highlighted the financing mechanisms mobilized to encourage private investments in green infrastructure.
Larache, an agricultural potential to preserve
The province of Larache, rich in agricultural resources, was at the heart of discussions. Industrialists expressed their desire to see concrete solutions emerge to preserve this heritage while improving the energy and water performance of farms.
Perspectives and regional projects
The round tables explored various themes, ranging from water transition to the management of local resources. Solar projects dedicated to agro-industry and financial mechanisms to support sustainable initiatives were also presented, offering promising prospects for the future of the region.
This edition of the Meetings on Decarbonization reinforced the collective ambition for a more sustainable agro-industrial development, in line with the ecological and economic challenges of Morocco.
