During the fifth edition of the Global Power-to-X Summit, held under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, IRESEN (Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have officially established a partnership focused on the development of green hydrogen and its industrial applications.
This agreement aims to strengthen scientific cooperation, support sustainable investments, and facilitate the implementation of projects in new energy sectors. Special emphasis is placed on the production of green hydrogen and the realization of a feasibility study for a green methanol project in the Oriental region.
According to Abdemajid Bennis, GGGI representative in Morocco, this agreement aligns perfectly with national directions and paves the way for joint projects of mutual interest with high potential, with green hydrogen being a strategic opportunity for the Kingdom’s energy transition.
Green methanol plays a central role in this initiative. As stated by Samir Rachidi, director general of IRESEN, this synthetic fuel will provide Moroccan ports with competitive fuels and integrate them into the green maritime corridors currently being structured internationally. The evolving regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) are expected to accelerate the development of the hydrogen economy and synthetic fuels.
The GGGI, based in Seoul, promotes a development model that balances economic growth with environmental respect, while IRESEN serves as a pillar of applied Moroccan research in renewable energies. The Power-to-X Summit fosters international cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and explores solutions to accelerate the global energy transition.
This collaboration marks a significant step for Morocco in the race for clean energy and positions the country among the emerging players in green hydrogen on the international stage.
