The installation ceremony of Mr. Zouhair Chorfi, appointed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI as president of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE), took place on Thursday at the Authority’s headquarters in Rabat.

On this occasion, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, who presided over the ceremony, congratulated Mr. Chorfi for the royal trust placed in him, emphasizing that the restructuring of the ANRE “marks a major step in strengthening Morocco’s energy governance.”

“In accordance with the High Royal Guidelines, the ANRE, with expanded competencies and increased independence, will play a central role in regulating the entire energy value chain, including electricity, natural gas, and hydrogen,” the minister stated.

This reform, she continued, “aims to make the ANRE a true pillar of regulation, serving investment and the reforms undertaken to position Morocco as an international reference in sustainable energy governance.”

For his part, Mr. Chorfi, who succeeds Mr. Abdellatif Bardach in this position, expressed his honor at the royal trust placed in him, assuring that he is fully committed to working with the Authority’s staff to fulfill the missions assigned to this institution.

With the restructuring of the ANRE, His Majesty King Mohammed VI has opened new horizons for the Authority to contribute to Morocco’s development, Mr. Chorfi asserted, calling for the mobilization of all concerned parties to achieve the expected objectives.

Mr. Chorfi joined the finance sector in 1985, where he held several positions of responsibility. In November 2017, he was appointed Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Administrative Reform, before serving as the director of the cabinet of the Minister of Finance (May 2020-October 2021), and then as a member of the Supervisory Board of Crédit du Maroc (since December 2022).
