HydroJeel, from INNOVX, announced the receipt of a €30 million grant from the Power-to-X (PtX) Development Fund to accelerate the development of the Jorf Hydrogen Platform.
The grant agreement was officially signed last Wednesday by Amine Houssaim, CEO of HydroJeel and INNOVX, and Mr. Thomas Engelmann, General Director of the PtX Development Fund, in the presence of the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Morocco, Robert Dölger, and the director of KfW Morocco, Janne Rajpar, according to a statement from HydroJeel.
With a budget of €270 million, the PtX Development Fund is part of KfW’s PtX platform, a program that supports hydrogen projects in Global South countries to accelerate industrial decarbonization and promote the development of low-carbon value chains.
The awarding of this grant follows a rigorous selection process during which 98 expressions of interest from seven eligible countries were evaluated.
The Jorf Hydrogen Platform is the second project selected under the calls for proposals from the PtX Development Fund, thus highlighting its strategic role in the industrialization of green hydrogen production.
A key player in INNOVX’s energy portfolio, HydroJeel aims to produce green hydrogen, green ammonia, and their derivatives on a large scale, meeting the OCP Group’s needs for sustainable nutrition solutions while supplying international markets with competitive low-carbon products essential for the energy transition.
Beyond production, HydroJeel is committed to industrial innovation and positions itself at the forefront of hydrogen solutions, with a clear ambition to develop a dynamic industrial ecosystem.
Developed by HydroJeel on behalf of the OCP Group, the Jorf Hydrogen Platform aims for a production of 100,000 tons of green ammonia per year by the end of 2026. This platform is a pillar of the OCP Group’s green ammonia program, which aims to reach 1 million tons by 2027 and 3 million tons by 2032, thus accelerating the transition to low-carbon fertilizer solutions.
Ammonia is an essential ingredient in global food production, but its conventional production is highly carbon-intensive. The Jorf Hydrogen Platform addresses this challenge by harnessing green hydrogen to establish a low-carbon fertilizer supply chain, thereby reinforcing the OCP Group’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and industrial decarbonization.
As for the PtX Fund, it is a program initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and managed by KGAL Investment Management on behalf of KfW.
Quoted in the statement, Amine Houssaim, General Director of HydroJeel and INNOVX, said: “This grant is a recognition of HydroJeel’s expertise in green hydrogen solutions and marks a major advancement in our journey. The Jorf Hydrogen Platform project reflects our commitment to promoting sustainable energy practices while positioning Morocco as a regional leader in green hydrogen solutions.”
“The Jorf Hydrogen Platform distinguished itself with a solid concept, supported by an innovative developer. HydroJeel has developed this project by relying on best practices in the sector while managing risks at every stage, from design to commercialization,” emphasized Thomas Engelmann, General Director of the PtX Development Fund and Head of Energy Transition at KGAL.
“The integration of social and environmental dimensions by HydroJeel, at the heart of the Jorf Hydrogen Platform development, was a determining criterion in our decision to support this project,” added Florian Ziegler, Principal Portfolio Manager at KfW.
The statement reminds that Morocco was selected to benefit from the PtX grant due to its ideal geographical conditions for renewable energies, its strong potential in green hydrogen, and its ambitious and transparent economic strategies regarding hydrogen.
The Kingdom offers significant opportunities for the development of green economic sectors and the promotion of local value creation. Moreover, existing priorities of German cooperation closely align with Morocco’s objectives, thus fostering synergies and complementary opportunities.
This grant represents a major step in the industrialization of green hydrogen production, positioning the Jorf Hydrogen Platform as a reference in sustainable ammonia production. By mobilizing global expertise and strategic financing, HydroJeel and the PtX Development Fund accelerate the transition to clean energy-based industrial ecosystems, thus contributing to Morocco’s evolution towards a more sustainable energy future.
