The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, stated on Tuesday in Rabat that “Morocco’s offer” regarding the development of the green hydrogen sector will provide a strong boost to investments in the energy field and contribute to reducing the energy bill.
In response to an oral question in the House of Councillors about the “investment prospects in the green hydrogen industry,” posed by the group of the National Rally of Independents, Ms. Benali indicated that this project is capable of promoting rigorous planning of infrastructure and regulatory and institutional reform to support the energy sector, renewable energies, and green hydrogen.
It will also contribute to local development through the creation of jobs and the transition to a sustainable economy at the territorial level, particularly in five regions of the Kingdom, which have very significant potential in this area, she asserted.
“Morocco’s offer,” which is part of the implementation of the High Royal Guidelines, crowns 15 years of Moroccan experience in the development of renewable energies and 32 years of efforts to encourage private investments in the energy sector, she noted.
Particular attention has been paid to establishing mechanisms to support this offer, notably through the development of a regulatory and institutional framework that allows for monitoring this new economy and defines the sectors concerned, including the green ammonia industry, petrochemicals, phosphate, electricity, and transport.
On this occasion, Ms. Benali reviewed the various uses of green hydrogen, including the chemical industry and the production of ammonia, as an essential component for the production of nitrogen fertilizers.
