The strategic partnership between the French group Engie and the Moroccan phosphate giant OCP for the development of green hydrogen in Morocco is progressing rapidly. This project, initiated during the state visit of the French president to Morocco on October 28, 2024, aims to strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries and promote renewable energies.

**A massive investment for an energy transition**

According to sources close to the matter, the agreement between Engie and OCP involves an investment of up to 17 billion euros. This financial commitment underscores the importance placed on energy transition and sustainable development.

    **Concrete projects on the horizon**

The partnership between Engie and OCP encompasses several aspects, including:

    – The production of renewable energy to power OCP sites.
    – The synthesis of green ammonia, an essential component for the production of eco-friendly fertilizers.
    – The development of infrastructure to connect OCP sites to the national electrical grid.
    – The construction of a seawater desalination plant for agriculture.

These initiatives aim to reduce the carbon footprint of the Moroccan industry and promote sustainable agriculture.

    **An ambitious timeline**

The deployment of the projects will take place over several years:

    – Renewable energy projects are expected to begin in 2026.
    – Desalination infrastructure and initiatives related to green hydrogen are planned for 2028.
    – Other projects, particularly in the field of synthetic fuels, could emerge by 2032.

**A strong commitment to Morocco’s energy future**

This partnership between Engie and OCP is part of a broader dynamic aimed at positioning Morocco as a regional leader in renewable energies. By making significant investments in green hydrogen and associated infrastructures, the Kingdom confirms its determination to decisively engage in the energy transition and actively contribute to the fight against climate change.
