The “Green H2A” platform, developed by IRESEN, UM6P, and the OCP group, dedicated to research and innovation in green hydrogen, will be launched by the end of 2024. Located in Jorf Lasfar, this technological infrastructure covers an area of 5 hectares and aims to test electrolysis technologies and train experts. Two pilot projects are underway: one to produce four tons of green ammonia per day, in collaboration with Proton Ventures, and the other for green methanol intended for the maritime and aeronautical sectors.

Samir Rachidi, General Director of IRESEN, confirmed the progress of the project by stating that this initiative will allow for the testing and comparison of PEM and Alkaline electrolysis technologies and analyze the impact of electrical grid variability on hydrogen production. Additionally, the platform will serve as a training center to develop human skills capable of managing these technologies.

Among the ongoing projects, the first aims to produce four tons of green ammonia per day, using an electrolysis capacity of about 4 MW, split between 2 MW PEM and 2 MW Alkaline. This project is in collaboration with the Dutch company Proton Ventures. The second pilot project concerns the production of green methanol for green fuels intended for maritime and aeronautical mobility. Projects for the storage and transport of green hydrogen are also under development.

The platform aims to collaborate with international partners, attracting the best talents and researchers in the field of green hydrogen. Several international entities, including French, Spanish, Dutch, Belgian, Japanese, Korean, German, and American partners, have expressed interest in joining this initiative.

This platform is expected to enable Morocco to build a dedicated sector for green hydrogen and its derivatives, and to better support the implementation of the “Morocco Offer,” launched on March 11 by the government, aimed at foreign investors wishing to engage in the sector. According to Samir Rachidi, IRESEN also aims to position itself on the “Morocco Offer” by establishing research partnerships with companies eager to develop green hydrogen projects in the Kingdom. Since 2017, IRESEN has been a pioneer in developing a roadmap for establishing a green hydrogen sector in Morocco. They have conducted several field studies to analyze the socio-economic impact of these projects as well as the opportunities for the country. As initiators, they wish to continue supporting Morocco in the realization of green hydrogen projects.
