The Moroccan golf world is resolutely going green. Under the effective presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) held a national seminar dedicated to the ecological transition of golf courses on Saturday, May 10, at the National Horse Institute in Rabat.
The event, led by the Water and Environment Commission of the Federation, brought together a wide panel of stakeholders: environmental experts, representatives from public institutions, club managers, greenkeepers, hoteliers, and members of civil society committed to sustainable sports practices. All responded to the FRMG’s call to outline the contours of a more responsible golf.
This seminar is part of the ongoing Golf Go Green program, launched in 2021. Its goal is to help Moroccan clubs integrate sustainable management practices through decision-making tools, feedback from experiences, and a space for knowledge sharing.
Among the topics discussed throughout the day:
- the rational management of water resources,
- the integration of biodiversity in course maintenance,
- agronomic innovations,
- and the environmental labeling of clubs.
The discussions were led by reference figures in the field, including Daniel Lightfoot (R&A), Rémy Dorbeau (AGREF), biologist Gilles Bœuf, Paul Armitage (Terre Blanche), and Arthur Lecomte (Golf National de Paris). Moroccan professionals in the field also enriched the debates, such as Simon Rees (Royal Golf Dar Es Salam), Hajar Benlouali (Mazagan), and Assiya Mabrour (Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia).
The highlight of the seminar was the official presentation of the Charter for the Environmental Management of Golf Spaces. This document, the result of collective work, outlines future commitments regarding ecological transition, taking into account the specificities of each site. It embodies the shared desire of a changing sector eager to combine sports performance with environmental responsibility.
The FRMG praised the commitment of all participants and reaffirmed its role as an active supporter in this transformation dynamic. It intends to continue its efforts to make Moroccan golf a fully mobilized player in favor of sustainable development.
