The General Director of the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF), Abderrahim Houmy, called on Thursday in Rabat for the preservation of forests, which constitute an important national heritage for current and future generations, emphasizing their role in social, economic, and environmental aspects.
Speaking at a press conference dedicated to presenting the progress of the “Forests of Morocco 2020-2030” strategy, Mr. Houmy noted that this meeting is an opportunity to strengthen transparency in the implementation of this strategy, but also to allow the media to relay verified information and thus play their role in raising awareness and educating about the environment.
This meeting follows the Board of Directors of the ANEF, during which “very important” decisions were made both organizationally and budgetarily, highlighted the General Director of the ANEF.
Speaking at this press conference, Isam Ahabri, Financial Director and Digital Solutions at the ANEF, emphasized that the Kingdom has a great biogeographic and ecosystem diversity, while noting that the forest has faced significant pressure due to overexploitation and the effects of climate change.
Noting that the Moroccan forest, composed of fragile ecosystems, is a living space for 7 million people, Mr. Ahabri indicated that the “Forests of Morocco 2020-2030” strategy aims to establish sustainable management of this precious national heritage, relying on a realistic approach.
This approach revolves around three strategic objectives, namely securing forest land, adapting and rigorously applying forest law, and adopting a renewed participatory approach, he explained.
Launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2020, the “Forests of Morocco 2020-2030” strategy aims to make the forestry sector more competitive and modern through an inclusive, sustainable management model that places user populations at the heart of forest management.
