The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) began on Friday to produce maps that accurately identify risk areas throughout the national territory, as part of its efforts to anticipate the issue of forest fires.
“In order to anticipate the issue of forest fires in our country, ANEF produces, through its scientific prediction models, maps that accurately identify risk areas across the national territory,” states a press release from ANEF.
Thus, for the period from June 27 to July 24 and “after analyzing data related in particular to the nature of forest formations and their levels of combustibility and flammability, as well as topographical and climatic conditions,” ANEF announces that it has identified an extreme risk (red level) in the provinces of Tanger-Assilah, Ouezzane, Larache, Chefchaouen, Taza, Taounate, Al Hoceima, Kénitra, Béni Mellal, Azilal, Skhirate-Témara, Salé, Rabat, and Khémisset.
ANEF also detected a high risk (orange level) in the provinces of M’Diq-Fnideq, Tétouan, Fahs-Anjra, Sefrou, Khénifra, Ifrane, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taourirt, Oujda-Angad, Nador, Berkane, and Driouch, as well as a medium risk (yellow level) in the provinces of Sidi Slimane, Meknès, Essaouira, Benslimane, and Taroudannt.
In this regard, ANEF calls on residents of forest areas, all summer citizens and visitors, as well as people working in forest environments, to be vigilant by taking all necessary precautions to prevent forest fires.
The Agency also emphasized the importance of quickly alerting local authorities in case of observing smoke or suspicious behavior, concludes the press release.
