The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) began producing detailed maps identifying risk areas across the national territory on Friday, as part of its efforts to anticipate the issue of forest fires.
“To anticipate the problem of forest fires in our country, ANEF is producing maps that precisely identify risk areas throughout the national territory through its scientific predictive models,” stated a communiqué from ANEF.
For the period from June 27 to July 24, and “after analyzing data related to the nature of forest formations and their levels of combustibility and flammability, as well as topographical and climatic conditions,” ANEF announced that it had identified an extreme risk (red level) in the provinces of Tangier-Assilah, Ouezzane, Larache, Chefchaouen, Taza, Taounate, Al Hoceima, Kenitra, Béni Mellal, Azilal, Skhirate-Témara, Salé, Rabat, and Khémisset.
ANEF also detected a high risk (orange level) in the provinces of M’Diq-Fnideq, Tétouan, Fahs-Anjra, Sefrou, Khénifra, Ifrane, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taourirt, Oujda-Angad, Nador, Berkane, and Driouch, as well as a medium risk (yellow level) in the provinces of Sidi Slimane, Meknès, Essaouira, Benslimane, and Taroudannt.
In this regard, ANEF calls on residents near forests, all summer citizens and visitors, as well as individuals working in forest areas, to exercise vigilance and take all necessary precautions to prevent the outbreak of forest fires.
The Agency also emphasized the importance of quickly alerting local authorities in the event of smoke or suspicious behavior, the communiqué concluded.
