With the commissioning of the first two lines, each with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons, OCP Nutricrops’ equivalent TSP production now exceeds 5 million tons, OCP Nutricrops stated in a press release.
TSP, a concentrated phosphate fertilizer, contains over 90% of phosphorus immediately available to plants, making it particularly suitable for deficient soils and rational fertilization strategies based on the principles of the 4R (right source, right rate, right time, right place), the release specifies.
Driven by the SBU Manufacturing in collaboration with OCP Nutricrops, OFAS, and JESA, the TSP Hub transforms existing capacities and lays the groundwork for more precise fertilizer production tailored to current agronomic requirements.
It relies on a flexible industrial process that allows for precise integration of nutrients and additives, meeting the specific needs of farmers for their soils and crops. This technology offers industrial agility and speed in producing new customized formulas.
Combining capacity increase and operational flexibility, this strategic program, which is emerging as a key lever for the industrial transformation of OCP Nutricrops, addresses the challenges of modern, demanding, and customized agriculture by providing fertilizer production tailored to the varied and growing needs of the market.
To reach a new level, an ambitious program to adapt nitrogen fertilizer production units is currently underway, the same source reports, noting that this key project aims to integrate new equipment and modify existing facilities to also enable them to produce TSP.
This ramp-up will allow OCP Nutricrops to achieve an installed annual capacity of over 7 million tons of TSP by the end of 2025, thereby optimizing its industrial assets to effectively meet the growing demand for phosphate fertilizers.
“The TSP Hub represents a major step in our phosphate fertilizer production strategy. It consolidates our ability to provide high agronomic value fertilizers, custom-designed to meet the requirements of soils and farmers worldwide, while enhancing our precision, performance, and industrial capacity,” said Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops.
For his part, Ahmed Mahrou, Managing Director of the SBU Manufacturing, stated that “the TSP Hub embodies an industrial transformation undertaken by the SBU Manufacturing to meet the challenges of fertilizer customization in a context of diversifying agronomic needs.”
“It marks the emergence of an ambidextrous, agile, and customer-centric industrial model, where the production tool becomes a strategic lever. With its new organization, the SBU Manufacturing is developing an increasing number of customized products, tailored to increasingly differentiated needs,” noted Mr. Mahrou.
He added that through this dynamic, the SBU Manufacturing affirms its commitment to putting industrial performance, in terms of flexibility, capacity, and adaptability, at the service of creating sustainable value.
The launch of the TSP Hub is based on strengthened governance, with the creation of a dedicated inter-structural team for the startup, as well as optimized coordination of over 1,200 stakeholders on site, across all trades.
From an environmental perspective, the TSP Hub is entirely based on the use of unconventional water, as part of the overall strategy of the OCP Group.
OCP Nutricrops is a subsidiary of the OCP Group dedicated to developing soil and plant nutrition solutions to address global challenges in food production and sustainability.
The SBU Manufacturing is responsible for ensuring the Operations and Exploration activities on the OCP Group’s processing platforms in Jorf Lasfar and Safi. It aims to position OCP as a best-in-class player in the industry, relying on operational excellence at all levels.
