Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, recently stated that Morocco is accelerating its electricity production from renewable energies, in accordance with the strategic guidelines defined by the Royal High Directives. During a meeting with the temporary thematic working group on energy transition in the House of Representatives, she highlighted the progress made by the Kingdom in this area.

Between 2009 and August 2024, Morocco’s electrical capacity has significantly increased, rising from 6,127 megawatts to 11,980 megawatts. Currently, more than 44% of the electricity produced in the country comes from renewable sources. Morocco aims to double this “green” production by 2027, reflecting its commitment to further developing renewable energies and reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.

This energy transition plan is part of the broader efforts of the Kingdom to combat climate change and strengthen its energy independence.
