During the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Acwa Power, the Saudi giant, and Gotion Power Morocco announced a strategic partnership for the construction of a 500 MW wind farm, equipped with a 2,000 MWh storage system. This $800 million investment aims to supply a future Moroccan battery factory dedicated to electric vehicles, scheduled for 2026.

This wind farm is intended to provide energy to a battery gigafactory in Kénitra, with an estimated cost of 14 billion dirhams. The factory, expected to generate around 17,000 direct jobs, will strengthen Morocco’s position as a major player in the sustainable mobility sector.

The management of this initiative will be led by Khalid Qalam, president of Gotion Power Morocco, who brings 30 years of experience in the automotive industry. Recently, a delegation led by the Head of Government visited Gotion’s battery production line in China, a result of a partnership with Volkswagen. This factory produces 180,000 battery systems per year, demonstrating Gotion’s ability to replicate this model in Morocco.

This collaboration illustrates Morocco’s commitment to strengthening its investments in renewable energies, supported by the synergy between the public and private sectors. The Kingdom aspires to become a model of energy transition in Africa by integrating large-scale projects that support sustainable development.
