Empower New Energy, a Norwegian company specializing in renewable energy investments, has recently strengthened its presence in Morocco by signing a 12-year power purchase agreement with the Moroccan company Saray Immo. This agreement involves the installation of rooftop photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of 5.8 megawatts (MW) on the buildings of Saray Immo and its subsidiary Tanakoo in Berrechid. The investment, estimated at nearly 35 million dirhams, is expected to enable an annual production of approximately 9,600 megawatt-hours (MWh), thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 6,000 tons per year.

This project is part of Empower New Energy’s strategy to expand its activities in North Africa. In 2022, the company had already invested 2 million dirhams in partnership with Jet Energy for the installation of 2.5 MW photovoltaic panels at Zalar Holding sites in Morocco. Furthermore, Empower New Energy is developing a solar project of 948 kilowatts (kW) for the Mall of Sousse in Tunisia and has recently concluded a $50 million agreement to finance a 40 MW portfolio in Egypt. The company is also active in Kenya, with a 2.5 MW solar plant for Abyssinia Group of Industries, and in Nigeria, where it plans a hybrid solar and storage plant of 1,800 MWh/year for UMZA Farms.

These initiatives reflect Empower New Energy’s commitment to promoting renewable energy in Africa, thus contributing to the continent’s energy transition.
