The production of electrical energy at the national level increased by 2.3% at the end of the first eight months of 2024, after a rise of 0.7% at the end of August 2023, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This improvement is driven, in particular, by the production of renewable energies related to law 13-09 (+39.3%) and, to a lesser extent, by the private production of electricity, which is slightly up compared to the end of August 2023 (+0.4%), explains the DEPF in its recent economic note.

Regarding the production of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), the recorded decline is gradually easing, reaching 2.5% at the end of August 2024, after a decrease of 7.3% at the end of June 2024 and a reduction of 9.4% the previous year.

On the side of electricity sector exchanges with the outside, the imported volume increased by 27.2% at the end of August, after a growth of 39.3% a year earlier. As for the exported volume, it contracted by 22.3% (after -33.7%).

As for the volume of net electricity demand, it maintains almost the same growth rate as the previous year, with an increase of 3.3% (after +3.5%).

Regarding electricity consumption, its volume consolidated by 5.8% during the first two months of the third quarter of 2024, covering a performance of sales of “very high, high, and medium voltage, excluding distributors” of +7.4% and those intended for distributors of +5%, as well as for households of +5.5%.

Thus, electricity consumption increased by 0.7% at the end of August 2024, instead of a decrease of 1.2% at the end of June 2024 and an increase of 4.3% a year earlier.
