The city of El Jadida is hosting this week the 16th edition of Environment Week, themed: “Sustainable Agriculture: the contribution of new technologies to water economy and productivity.” Organized by the Doukkala Association, the event runs until June 21 under the Honorary Presidency of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa.

Through a series of conferences, workshops, meetings, and citizen actions, this edition highlights the importance of agricultural technologies in the context of increasing water scarcity. The event aims to raise awareness among populations and stakeholders in the agricultural sector about sustainable practices and innovation as levers for resilience.

In his inaugural speech, Abdelkrim Bencherki, president of the organizing Association, emphasized the alignment of this initiative with the royal directives regarding the fight against water stress. The president of Chouaib Doukkali University, Az-Eddine Azim, advocated for a break with traditional agricultural methods and a more systematic integration of smart irrigation and connected technologies.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mahmoud Badiss reminded that, despite technological advancements, water remains the fundamental resource for all agricultural activities. Researcher Rachid Mrabet from INRA stressed the complementarity between short-term resilience and long-term sustainability, highlighting the interest in space technologies, biotechnology, and proactive climate risk prevention.

Environment Week is also an opportunity to mobilize citizens around concrete initiatives: planting, beach cleaning, neighborhood beautification, and raising awareness about sustainable agriculture, notably through meetings at the Abdelhak Kadiri cultural complex.

An edition that combines scientific reflection, citizen action, and awareness-raising, with the goal of building a more responsible, more efficient agriculture adapted to the climate challenges of the 21st century.
